Coldplay oh my god oh my god a thousand times oh my god in my loud shrieking teenage girl voice.

I realized earlier this morning, that we don’t revert to our childhood as we get older. Because we never really grow up. “That’s me in the corner”, the teenage girl screaming her head off watching Coldplay on The Today Show.

Cause great songs by great musicians can do that to you. It makes a body want to get up and dance and SCREEAM! Let me hear you SCREEAM!

I’m okay now. It’s a primal thing. But, “The Band”, and I mean that in the truest sense of the term — is Back! Let me say that again. “The Band” is Back! Coldplay did not disappoint.

All of the members of that band Rocked on the Plaza this morning. The drummer, Will Champion – mean! Fierce mean! And the other two guys, bassist, Guy Merryman and guitarist, Jonny Buckland, slammin’! And it’s a shame I didn’t know their names, (I had to look them up) like I knew all of the members of the Beatles and Stones and J5. Cause they deserve us knowing their names.

Okay, Chris Martin is a star, righteously so. But he proves to me, he’s a musician first. These guys are musical geniuses, and I don’t use that word lightly. I think a lot of musicians are geniuses…John Mayer, Adam Levine, Jack Johnson, Nelly, Mariah, Jay-Z. All across the various genres. Cause I love music, man!

I love music” 70’s? O’Jays? Anybody? I know there are some old schoolers out there still roaming the planet who remember “I love music…any kind of music”. Old Schoolers: “Let me here you say, “Heey!” Repeat it: “Heey!” Now, “I’m still here” Repeat it:”I’m still here“. Hallelujah! We’re still here. That’s what I’m talkin’ bout.

And you Young Titans know what I’m talking about, too… cause you grew up listening to your parents LPs. And speaking of LPs, Vinyls are making a comeback, He-ey! I’m on a roll. As Jim Carey would say, “Somebody stop me!”

But, I love music, man. It’s the Universal language, and Coldplay spoke to me the first time I saw their recent commercial, promoting Viva la Vida.

I have to admit, the power of television is amazing, because I would probably have never checked them out. I knew of them, but I didn’t “discover” them until that commercial.

I said to myself, “Who’s that guy jammin’ like that?” Eventually, it registered that it was Chris Martin promoting his new CD. And then I said to myself, “Okay, I get it now, Miss Gwyneth Paltrow, and I’m gelll–lus.” Chris is hot.

Okay, I’m ramblin’, but you have to understand how excited I am over my new find. A great new song is like an electrical current shooting through my soul — really — it’s an electro-magnetic thing.

Okay, I’m trying to calm down and focus, but it’s hard, because man, I dig Coldplay! Thank you, guys for getting it right, for being obedient to the creative spirit. It ain’t easy. It’s hard work.

I confess, I haven’t heard the entire CD, just a few songs, but those did it for me and it doesn’t matter to me if the rest doesn’t “ring my bell” (Another blast from the past…”You can ring my belllll, you can ring my bell!“). I will buy the CD anyway, today.

Also, I loved Chris’ reference to the monster musical machine that is American Idol. Ann Curry, from The Today Show, asked how they got to their success. And Chris jokingly responded something about hiring a lot of “people” and “Ryan Seacrest designed their costumes”. A joke at Ryan’s expense, but also a tribute to how powerful that show has become and, to compete with it — you’ve got to bring it. They brung it.

Chris’ comment gave big kudos to Simon and his gang. I respect that Simon is using his power for good. I mean, bringing Opera to main stream? Oh Kay? All I’m saying is good music is nice. Great music is better.

Props to Idina Menzel’s new CD, “I Stand”. Major lyric’s, girl! And married to Taye Diggs, too. People, listen to the lyrics on that song.

We say it over and over again in our products for All About Us, and throughout the website, and on this blog, and now I’ll say it again, Words Matter.

I’ll be singing the lyrics to Coldplay’s “Viva la Vida” for a long time.

I should mention that I am a Political Scientist, by education, and I interpret music a little bit differently. I mean, check these lyrics out by The Pussy Cat Dolls “Buttons”:

“I’m telling you to loosen up my buttons, baby,
but you keep frontin’ me,
Sayin’ what you chu go do to me,
But I ain’t seen nuttin’ yet,
I’m a sexy momma
use to gettin’ what I wanna…
You keep saying all the right things
but I can’t seem to get you over here
to take this off
I’m about to blow…”

Sounds like she’s talking to a politician. And with that Egyptian rhythmic beat, it sounds to me like the Dolls are trying to warn us that the Empire is about to Fall.

And talking about Empire’s Falling, brings me to my next blog, which is about the presidential race, and my question is:
“Who will the Oscar for the Best Actor go to…Obama or McCain?”

Oh, just so those of you who don’t know, the terms “coldblooded” and “mean” are 70’s slang, both translate to “intensely good”.
