Is Juno to Blame?

Great perspective. It comes down to taking responsibility for our actions, and understanding how we affect others. When a movie portrays a teen problem, are they responsible for how teens will respond to that portrayal? Or is it the parents responsibility to help teens interpret the message? Is this a question of artistic freedom vs parental guidance — once again?

This is an unfortunate occurrence — if indeed the girls made their “pack” to get pregnant based on the movie Juno. That has not been revealed as of yet.

Jabari’s Blog

I played football and basketball in high school, college and the NFL during the 70’s. The pressure to be good role models back then was not as relevant as it is today. An athlete’s personal lifestyle was glamorized, but not front and center. The media changed all that.

Today, the private life of a public figure is paraded as front page News on a daily basis. Make one mistake and it can cost you a career. Just ask Pete Rose. Or Michael Vick. Or Marion Jones. Or Elliot Spitzer, you know, the NY politician?

You ruin your reputation and you jeopardize commercial endorsements. Kobe Bryant may still be the MVP of the regular NBA season, but those lucrative deals start to vanish.

Is it fair, when entertainers, say Mel Gibson, or Robert Downey, Jr., or Paris Hilton can go to jail and continue on with their careers, as though it were part of a movie script? Why are some public figures held more accountable for their human mishaps than others?

Is the Media to blame for pop culture’s demise? Yes and no.

Yes, because it’s true, “what you eat, you become” …and we are force fed News that is on a constant downward spiral.

Every day, all day we hear about so much tragedy, violence, sex, drugs, and on and on. It may not be the fault of the News Media alone, but the collaboration of public relations people promoting and glamourizing the poor behavior of celebrity clients.

We seem to be a copycat society — if celebs do it, then it must be cool.

What the world needs now is … well, Hope. All About Us Greeting Cards is dishing out a new kind of ‘feel good’ product. And, it’s not another “Happy Pill.”

Founder, Kimya Gordon created the start up to offer emotional support for all those “issues” invading society these days.

“In development, I encountered three things. First, problems never just disappear. We solve our own problems, which begins with a positive mindset,” said Gordon. “Second, positive reinforcement is critical in any healing process, whether it’s a broken heart, a crushed spirit, or a physical challenge. And third, written words matter. When people read something in print, it sticks. It becomes a ‘truth’ in our psyche. Greeting cards was a way to use positive reinforcement in a simple, literary format.”

Gordon, an Entrepreneur, and President of the company, discovered that greeting cards have been around as early as 1910, and remained a viable contender in the market, “yielding multi-million dollar revenues”.
