Earlier this year, a state-run program advertised an opportunity for residents to apply for affordable universal health care. They made it clear that everyone may not be eligible, but the program would conduct a type of lottery for participants.

As it turned out, it was just a way for a local university to accummulate names and phone numbers for surveys and studies.

Is this a flagrant violation of our privacy, an abuse of state-run agencies? The promise of health care when there was no such program is fraudulent.

The honest and right thing would have been to advertise that, if you apply, you may not become a participant of the program, but your information will most definitely be used to conduct these studies and surveys, for solicitation. The choice is yours. Apply and get health care, or not, and get solicited either way.

Bells would have gone off and most people are aware enough these days to know better. It still should have been a personal choice.

To expose the culprits would require an investigative process that the average person does not have time for. But something needs to be done. These growing assaults are not just out of line, they are crossing the line.

Here’s a call to the real investigative journalists out there. If they do their jobs, we can start to eliminate these kinds of offenses. People are going too far with being deceptive and intrusive. They are violating our Constitution. Fraud, Abuse, and Invasion of Privacy are crimes.

Are we the victims of one self-serving Political Party playing Good Cop Bad Cop?

A cynical view? Or, a truth? Stay tuned.

Why do we get jealous of others? Is Envy an inherent instinct? Does it trigger an innate emotion conducive to self-preservation? Is it similar to that shot of adrenalin that informs humans (and all animal species) of danger — initiating the ‘fight or flight’ instinct?

We are taught that being envious of others is petty, selfish behaviour. As a matter of fact, it is considered one of the seven deadly sins.

Two more weeks of Summer. Say it ain’t so. Sigh.

I know those blistering hot days of Summer in the Southwest are not going to be missed, in favor of the mild winter alternative. The humid, drenching Southern and Eastern dog days can wag on down into a calm Fall transition. And California is the only place where Summer kinda grazes year round.

But for Northwesterner’s, Summer is golden. Even the two weeks of August Heat is tolerable considering the soon to come Gloom and Rain and Cold. Burrr. And Rain. Did I say Rain?

I love the rain, don’t get me wrong. It’s what makes this part of God’s Country so magnificently green and serene. But like I said, ‘Summer is Golden’. And it will be missed for a very long, long, long and yes, dreary, six or seven or eight months before it returns. Adieu warm weather.

Adieu Summer. Adieu.

Oh wait. We’ve got a few more weeks. Hey! I feel better already.

I want to take time out and thank a few people for their persistence, determination, lookin’ out, you know, supporting me. Apparently, these ingenious fellows have found a way to “capitalize” on my blog, the articles, the press releases, etc., which is extremely flattering.

So thank you to the sites that borrow my articles and releases to promote other greeting card companies, I’m flattered! Especially greetinggallery.com, jh183.com, and davickservices.com…there are probably more out there, but you get the spotlight here. I will share your handy work later on in this article.

They are certainly not lazy. I can’t imagine taking the time to “borrow” someone elses work, create a website based on that work, and ask the competitors to my work to pay to advertise on that site.

It would seem to me that if a person is that creative and industrious, they could spend their precious time, not stealing, but developing something amazing, legitimately. Because they are obviously very capable.

I use the term “stealing” because my articles are being reprinted, sometimes re-titled, sometimes left wholly in tact, without my permission. And without my knowledge. You could always ask someone if you could reprint their work without payment — as added publicity. You know? I was never asked or paid for them. Of course, if I were paid, then they could re-print them as they see fit. I think it’s called copyright infringement, which has to do with intellectual property laws…blah blah blah. Anyway…

That can’t cry over you. Word by Jabari Cards Available Now!

Debt is becoming an ugly, ugly, ugly word. It has opened the door for some very nasty people to take advantage of people at their lowest. Let’s take a poll.

How many people do you think go into debt planning NOT to pay their bills?

Logically, people go into debt because they want to live better, they want more of what they see and a lot of the time, cannot afford, but really do need. Such as medical expenses, not even major ones. But everyday things, like dental emergencies, eyeglasses, appendix removal, car repairs. Utility company, cable company, phone company prices exceed your salary. Voila! You’re in debt!

How do you avoid debt? Get a better job with a higher paying salary. Easier said than done for most people. Go to college. We’ll come back to that one. Sell drugs. Prostitute. Those are options for the not so faint of heart. No one in debt plans on not being able to pay their bills anymore than they plan on not being on this planet the next day. They are in debt primarily because of predators.

Credit is BIG BUSINESS. It’s everywhere you look. Banks, PayDay Loans … and Credit Cards are being offered by everyone from stores, gas stations, schools .. you name it and they probably offer credit cards.

We are made to believe if you get credit, it will make your life better. Your credit score will go up. You will have access to just about anything you need and want. Yet, there is all that small print. What’s that all about?

It’s about chain yanking. Loop holes you will eventually have to jump through. Surprise tactics and strategies that will put a strangle hold on your finances. Think foreclosure crisis.

And then the devil invented Collections. The collections industry is just a legitimate form of loan sharking. Few people realize that most collection agencies are law offices. Yeah. Attorneys. Ambulance chasing didn’t exactly dry up. They just found a new prey. And it’s a racket!

Find this Card in Substance Abuse

If you could somehow look into the future, and know the day you were going to die, what would you do differently?

Would you make the most of every day? Would you be a better person? Would you pursue every dream if you had the time?

Or, let’s say, you woke up this morning, and had a sense that this would be the day that you died. (Think about the movie, “American Beauty”) What would you do?

The passing this weekend of two extraordinary men makes us all think of our mortality. Perhaps Isaac Hayes heard of Bernie Mac’s passing on Saturday and thought, “Wow, so young, so much going for him and so much to live for…and just like that, he’s gone.” It’s unlikely that he thought, “Tomorrow will be my last day on Earth.” Instead, he went to his treadmill and worked out and it was his last day. Just like that.

I own and drive a 5 Series BMW. But I am a member of Zip Car and I use their cars at least 2-3 times a month or more. I run errands, I go on appointments, I zip around town. I can pick up a car simply by calling on my cell phone and making a reservation for any of the numerous cars available. From BMW’s to the hot Scion XD, Honda Civics, Prius, and more.

I go to the location, run my member card across the windshield, get in and go. I return, run my card again, and go home.

I like it because the GAS IS PAID FOR, as well as the INSURANCE, and I get to test out new cars to see what I might choose to buy next. I save mileage on my car. I save wear and tear on my car. And Zip is available when my car is being cranky.

We pay tribute to HRH Mandela, because he is more than a mere man reaching a great age. HRH (because he is truly a “King to the World”) represents survival in the truest sense of the word.

There is no mortal comparison to Nelson Mandela. There are other great leaders, but none to have sustained such horrible, inhumane injustice, just for standing up for RIGHT. For believing in his right to stand, suffering the consequences, and, like the Great Phoenix, return from the ashes of his life, and still stand.

For another nation to invade your country, oppress, rape and pillage your people and your land and then, imprison you for more than a decade, taking you away from your wife and children, most people would demand retribution against his persecutors and false accusers. After all, he was fighting for his own country.

We honor you Mr. Mandela and marvel that you are still going strong. That you are still standing for humans all over the world. And most of all, that you have shown us how to live in the face of adversity, with grace and humility and courage and strength.

Long Live Our World King Mandela.

What do you think is the number one reason that causes people to be unhappy? Money Problems? Relationships? Work?

None of the above. Why? Because rich people can be unhappy. Couples that are very much in love can still be unhappy. A person with the greatest job in the world can still be frustrated and unhappy.

The number one reason for unhappiness is a lack of personal fulfillment. When we are not fulfilling our purpose on this planet, we may not realize it, but it leaves us adrift — idle. Sort of in a state of “waiting” for “it” to happen. That thing that makes it all come together, makes life worth living, centers us, calms us, motivates us to get up every morning with a spring in our step.

That’s the hardest thing in life to find.

And very few people on this planet ever find it. There are a number of reasons why.
